Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone - A Legend of The UFC and Sheath Underwear Athlete

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was born March 29, 1983 in Denver, Colorado. He had an untraditional childhood, being raised by his two Grandmother's following his parent's divorce. A big challenge he faced was getting into fights at school after being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, never having it properly treated. He attended the Air Academy High School in El Paso County, Colorado and after graduation, became a professional bull rider.

He made a big switch by beginning to train in Kick Boxing and Muy Thai at the age of 20, leading to a very successful record of 28 wins, 19 by knockout, and 1 draw. His passion continued to grow and began training in MMA at the Freedom Fighters Gym in Commerce City, Colorado. By 2006, he was training alongside legends like GSP and Rashad Evans at Greg Jackson's Submission Fighting Gaidojutsu school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His first taste of the MMA world was in 2009 at the World Extreme Cagefighting 38 against defending Lightweight Champion, Jamie Varner. The win went to Varner after a technical decision was made because of an illegal knee Cerrone used on Varner's eyebrow plate while he was down. This led to trash talking and controversy between the two fighters and they agreed to a rematch in 2010. After much delay, they faced off again at WEC 51 where Cerrone dominated Varner round for round.

The 6'1” 155 pound Cerrone was a serious threat to anyone in the lightweight division, by January 1st, 2011 the UFC and WEC combined to form one organization. His next bout was against Nate Diaz which he lost unanimously. After some great wins and few losses, Cerrone went on to knockout Melvin Guillard in the first round. He did suffer his first loss by knockout in 2013 against Anthony Pettis. This did not slow down Cowboy, as he received a Performance of the Night award after his fight with Edson Barboza and later earning one after his fight with Jim Miller after delivering a technical KO. This led him to an amazing 8 bout winning streak, ultimately suffering a loss by knockout from Rafael dos Anjos in the lightweight championship bout.

By 2016, Cerrone moved up to the Welterweight division and solidified a win against Tim Means after he surrendered in the first round, earning him another Performance of the Night bonus award. He received two more Performance of the Night awards after defeating Rick Story and Patrick Cote.

Cerrone has maintained a high level of training for himself and his team by creating the BMF (Bad Mother Fucker) Ranch on his property in Edgewood, New Mexico. This 40+acre training paradise has a weight lifting area, archery range, massive sauna (sweat lodge, pool, livestock, and so much more. Sheath co-owners Robert Patton and Matthew Humble got to explore this paradise in the summer of 2019, even doing a full hour in the sauna with Cerrone and his team. There is something extremely special about this place, it was only right that Sheath Underwear sponsored a legend of the UFC.

On January 28, 2020 Cerrone suffered a loss in the first round against Conor McGregor but that did not slow or stop him from continuing to do what he loves. Cerrone continues to train in his Sheath Underwear and makes time to do fun things with his family, going wakeboarding, rock climbing and ATV rides among much more. His nickname is quite simple, he wears a cowboy hat and boots and embraces the outdoor lifestyle 100%. There is no doubt that he is forever a legend in the MMA world, holding the most wins and knockouts in the UFC. We are not sure what Donald will be up to in the near future with fighting, he has a two year old son named Danger, and he and his partner Lindsay are expecting a second child in September. What we are sure of is that Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will continue to love his Sheath Underwear and have a positive impact on the world around us, always choosing to push yourself to the next level and stay grateful.
